Furano Mountain Guides
"Furano Ski Area: Furano Zone" movie  Click here!

Furano is the only ski area in Japan to have local volunteer Ski and Snowboard Mountain Guides who meet guests from Japan and all over the world to show them their mountain and to tell guests about the restaurants, bars, museums and galleries and all the events and activities on in Furano.

Locals give their time to assist international skiers visiting this area by meeting them at the base of the lifts and then showing them around the mountain according to the ability of the guest. Meeting a local, travellers are able to ask advice about sightseeing or even tips on the culture and ‘how to …’ questions.

Guides will be able to show you where to get lunch and explain about closing times for all the lifts. Guides give up their time for the enjoyment of guiding you around, so please introduce yourself and enjoy a morning with them.

Cost:
This service is completely free and provided by Furano Tourism Association and the locals.

Meeting places: Information Centre at Kitanomine Zone

Kitanomine Gondola: 10 am

These tours are arranged for guests who would like to get on first lifts. If you miss the tour but would still like to meet and use a host you can. Please grab a host as they come past you in one of the runs or as they get onto one of the lifts. Guests are welcome and encouraged to use the hosts more than once if they so desire.

Dates:
Ski and Snowboard Hosts are available through most of the season.

levels:
Suitable for all levels. Families and groups can use two guides if they would like to split up into different levels.

About the hosts:
Guides range in age from 16 to 70, in ability from intermediate to advanced, from male to female, from housewife or business person to student and farmer. The locals enjoy the chance to show skiers and snowboarders around their hill while communicating in Japanese, English or whatever language you may speak.

All guides are long term local Furano locals who have a love for the town and mountain and want to show the guests around and give them some local knowledge on things any guest may like to know about. Travellers can ask the locals about their favourite spots and hidden little bars and restaurants. With each week in Furano seeing a different event or activity available, these guides have the information to ensure you enjoy your trip into Furano.

Pre booking:
Guests and groups are also welcome to arrange a guide prior to their arrival to ensure they can have a private tour by on of the local Mountain Guides. For more information and booking requests please contact Furano Tourism Association.
